American Kestrel - photography workshop May 30, 2010

This is one of Shauna birds. Thanks.

I was fortunate to be able to attend a photography workshop at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy - www.canadianraptorconservancy.com. James and his wife Shauna were amazing hosts to this event and Carol and I did more ohhhhhhhhh and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhing. I have tons of shots to come from Great horned owl, barn owl, baby barn owl, speckled owl, flight shots of kestrels, red tailed hawks, harris hawks and eagles. It will take me weeks to go through them all. Here is a sampling of the American Kestrel. Enjoy

At the same course we were able to see this beautiful great horned owl baby. Lots of photos to come - over a 1000 to edit.

Bendale Mural May 27, 2010

Over the past 8 weeks I have been thrilled to work with Rob Matejka, professional artist, Christian Carrizo, mentor, and 12 youth from Bendale. Tonight was the unvieling of the mural and everyone was so excited. The theme is Bendale past and present.

Coyote, Swallows, Red-Necked Grebes and More May 24, 2010

Tree Swallow

Today Peter and I went for a drive to Col Sam Smith hoping to see (but no luck) whimbrels. To start our day I met Peter at the Cemetery and we saw a skinny female coyote who had kits somewhere nearby. We proceeded to Sam Smith and saw Red-Necked Grebe pair, flycatchers, swallows, and a nice snapping turtle. Next stop was Humber Bay and we saw cormorants, jumping fish and lots of yellow warblers. Traffic was already bad by then so we went home. Saw a few more birds on the way.Great day thanks Peter

Fox - Female on the fence May 22 2010

The fox was very nervous today - calling out to the kits below and jumping over the fence and running around the park. Went to a web site and the call appears to be a territorial call.

Female Fox on the Bluffs May 21, 2010

The female was busy hunting for the little foxes and a couple of nice shots of her on the bluffs. Luckily Trudy spotted her there. Thanks.

If you have never watched swan dancing and mating on the water go to the park. It is so funny and look at the expressions on their face.
